Five Alive!

Miss. C is five, and boy did she have fun celebrating with her friends, Texas style! There was a petting zoo, horseback riding, jump houses with crazy fun slides, a My Little Pony pinata and plenty of all out birthday fun!

And it would be a shame if I didn’t show you the album her mamma chose to preserve their memories. It is absolutely gorgeous. I was so excited when I picked it up, and I can’t say that I didn’t drool over it a few times before I delivered it to its rightful owner. As I’ve said before, the Forbeyon albums I offer are so incredible. The quality is among the best in the industry, and they are just so darn cool! From the brushed metal cameo on the front to the endless high grade cover options, there is just so much you can do to personalize them. I just love the idea of my clients having these to keep their memories alive for years and years to come!

Stay tuned for more album posts to come. There are endless cover options, and I’m sure I’ll have to show off some more!

Double the trouble?

Or perhaps in the case of this set of brother/sister twins, double the fun!

These were the sweetest babies. I shouldn’t be surprised by that, because their older brother is perhaps the sweetest 5-year-old I’ve ever met. But newborn sessions, under the best of circumstances, require a lot of patience. I had no idea what to expect from my first set of newborn twins, but these two didn’t give me any trouble at all. And I was totally blown away by how much they loved being close to each other. The minute we put them together, they snuggled in and completely relaxed. I’ve always wondered what it would be like to go through life with a twin. For these two little angels, I bet it will be very special indeed.

There once was a girl with a curl . . .

*Right* in the middle of her forehead.

She was good, and sweet, and all things lovely.

And while she was sometimes a little bit bad, she was certainly never horrid!

contagious love

Wow, this is one loved and treasured baby girl! Her mom and dad are so in love with every single inch of her, and I must say that their love is quite contagious. I came home from my session in their home yesterday and loved on my own two little treasures all afternoon. Ks, you are a beautiful family with beautiful love — and quite photogenic I might add!

Mixin’ it up!

Things on the blog are going to be changing slightly, for the better! You might have noticed over the past couple of months that I haven’t been posting as many pictures as part of my clients’ “sneak peeks.” I’ve been doing this for a couple of different reasons. First, I want to get each family’s sneak peek up on the blog as quickly as possible, within the first day or two after the session. When we have our family photos taken, I know how anxious I am so see something! And secondly, I like to sit down and edit sessions as a whole, which is usually not possible that quickly after a session. As your photographer, I aim to tell your story — to capture your connections and what it means to be where you are as a family right now. I think editing sessions all at once gives them a more coherent, seamless feel and allows me to tell your story better. But I’ve realized that by doing this, I haven’t been showing that much of my work, and those of you who might be on here to try to get to know me might like to see more. A few pictures here and there certainly doesn’t give you a very good sense of my style and what you will be getting if you book a session with me. So … I’ve decided to come back and post more photos from each of my sessions after all the editing and ordering is done, just for fun and just for those of you who’d like to see a little more! I probably won’t be posting every photo in a gallery (don’t want to overwhelm you!), but I am going to try to give you a more complete look at what a session with me entails. I hope you’ll enjoy these deeper looks into who I am as a photographer.

And you also might have noticed that I’ve been posting more of my own family’s pictures lately. Expect to see more of that too! I unfortunately fell into the trap of spending so much of my time and creative energy capturing and preserving other families’ memories, that I was neglecting my own. Wow, that’s not OK! After all, my little treasures are the main reason why I starting learning more about photography to begin with. I wanted to capture our connections and family memories in a beautiful way. So don’t be surprised if you see a little more of us too! 🙂

So let’s rewind back to my very first session of 2011, you might remember these two beautiful sisters who shared a very special bond.

This was a special session for me. I know I’ve said it before, but photographing sisters has extra special meaning for me. I am from a family of two girls, and my own sister and I were very close growing up. I still consider her one of my dearest friends, but we were absolutely inseparable as little girls. We were as different as different could be but loved each other dearly and were constant companions. We pushed each other to do things we might otherwise have avoided. She had me climbing trees and trying to keep up with the boys, and I had her playing school and treating our dolls to imaginary tea parties. We were very fortunate to have each other. These two sisters remind me a lot of the way we were. They have very unique and distinct personalities but are very, very close friends. A friendship like this is unique. It is special, and it is to be treasured.

where the wildflowers are

Or perhaps more appropriate in our case, where the “wild things” (a.k.a. Reynolds children) are. About once every six months, I try to carve out some time to take my own two kiddos out on a photo session of our own. Without fail, these photo sessions never go the way I have planned them in my head. I always envision for us what I hope all my sessions are — capturing family connections, stages, chemistry, love in a relaxed and beautiful way. I imagine all the things I want to document that are unique to where we are now — the sweet love that is between them, the mischievous yet endearing twinkle in Max’s eye, the baby chub Madeleine still sports that I know won’t be there this time next year, their wild imaginations, the curiosity and wonder with which they approach the world. But they are so on to me by now and generally resist all well laid plans of their mother!

I have to admit that I was a bit frustrated as we left the beautiful field we drove about 40 minutes outside of town to find. We were not the only family there that day taking the obligatory bluebonnet pics, and as all the other children were oh so nicely smiling for their parent’s cameras, there were my two crazies running about imagining there were ghosts coming to get them in the field of flowers (hence the exaggerated screams from Madeleine). Really….ghosts in wildflower fields….what on earth will they come up with next?!? But as I sat down to edit a few of these, I realized that I accomplished exactly what I set out to — capturing my two little wonders exactly how they are…crazy, wonderful and unique. I love absolutely *everything* about these two.

Bet you can’t guess which one I ordered in a huge 20×30 for my dining room wall!

workshop mania, part 2

Meet Miss. A., six and a half and full of fun and energy. We played pretend, explored and just had a lot of fun together. And by the end of our time, she was telling me what we should try next! I absolutely love photographing children this age. They are old enough to follow some instruction but still so childlike and innocent. I had a fantastic time hanging out with you Miss. A. Wish we lived closer so we could do it again!
