where the wildflowers are

Or perhaps more appropriate in our case, where the “wild things” (a.k.a. Reynolds children) are. About once every six months, I try to carve out some time to take my own two kiddos out on a photo session of our own. Without fail, these photo sessions never go the way I have planned them in my head. I always envision for us what I hope all my sessions are — capturing family connections, stages, chemistry, love in a relaxed and beautiful way. I imagine all the things I want to document that are unique to where we are now — the sweet love that is between them, the mischievous yet endearing twinkle in Max’s eye, the baby chub Madeleine still sports that I know won’t be there this time next year, their wild imaginations, the curiosity and wonder with which they approach the world. But they are so on to me by now and generally resist all well laid plans of their mother!

I have to admit that I was a bit frustrated as we left the beautiful field we drove about 40 minutes outside of town to find. We were not the only family there that day taking the obligatory bluebonnet pics, and as all the other children were oh so nicely smiling for their parent’s cameras, there were my two crazies running about imagining there were ghosts coming to get them in the field of flowers (hence the exaggerated screams from Madeleine). Really….ghosts in wildflower fields….what on earth will they come up with next?!? But as I sat down to edit a few of these, I realized that I accomplished exactly what I set out to — capturing my two little wonders exactly how they are…crazy, wonderful and unique. I love absolutely *everything* about these two.

Bet you can’t guess which one I ordered in a huge 20×30 for my dining room wall!

there is nothing sweeter . . .

…than a sleeping baby, especially when she’s your own.

Three times a week, we have to leave to go pick up Maxwell right in the middle of Madeleine’s nap. This is the scene as I walk into her room to wake her up from her sweet sleep…peace, serenity, all is right with the world. And the amazing thing is that every time I rudely awaken her to go get her brother, she is so excited to see him that she happily complies. “Ok, Mommy, let’s go get Maxwell, I feel so much better,” is what she sweetly sings to me. You are a such trooper sweet baby girl, and I feel so very thankful that God graced our family with you! You are a true treasure to me.

workshop mania, part 3

This little guy was so stinkin fun! A tad unsure of sitting in the suitcases at first (can’t say that I blame him, though), but boy did he love playing peek-a-boo. He was so excited about the little game we had going, and he was up and down so much, that he completely tired his little legs out! When it got to the point that he was just poking his head over the top of the tub, mama came to his rescue. May you always find life so amusing sweet little man…

And if you want to see some behind the scenes pics of me taking some of these shots, jump on over to my friend Amy’s blog.

workshop mania, part 1

This past weekend, I attended Michele Anderson of Pinkle Toes Photography‘s 3-day workshop for photographers, and wow, what a weekend it was! It was an intensive, challenging, exhausting but wonderful three days. Going into the workshop, I was prepared to learn a ton. Michele’s talent as a photographer and business woman is evident to all who follow her. But what I wasn’t prepared for was how much fun I would have in the process and what amazing friendships I would form. My fellow attendees were such incredible women who I found I had so much in common with. For three days, we worked together, learned together, laughed together, and shared about ourselves and our dreams. Thank you, ladies, for being so real and so much fun!

At the workshop, we worked with lots of different models, and in an attempt to avoid bombarding you with too many images at once, I’m going to post my favorite shots of each model separately. Stay tuned for more, but first up, maternity…

Double Ooh La La!

Before all the holiday craziness hit, my son and I were guests at the most fabulous Fancy Nancy birthday party. He loves an excuse to wear his bow tie (really, he does!), so I knew this party would be a huge hit. And it certainly did not disappoint. Mom thought of every last fancy detail.

It really was a fabulous soiree, complete with a fantastic art project (which is so near and dear to my heart since art is not always top on my energetic boy’s list!), yummy cupcakes, very special friends, all in the most lovely and quaint art studio. And the top hat, well…let’s just say we wore that thing out!

Miss. E, we hope you had as much fun at your 5th birthday party as we did! We loved dressing up and being fancy with you!!

Cards, cards, cards!

I absolutely LOVE Christmas cards. I love getting them in the mail, designing them, and I even love addressing mine and getting them out the door. And this year, it was even more exciting to open the mail and receive cards that I had put together for some of my friends. A special thanks to all of the families who helped me build my portfolio this fall — I feel so honored to have been a part of your lives. So here is a little slideshow with my cards from 2010 — just couldn’t pass up the opportunity to share them all with you!

Wishing you all a very merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!!

Christmas Fun!

If you live in Dallas but haven’t yet made it downtown to see the Neiman Marcus Christmas decorations this year, go before it’s too late! We went this past weekend and had the best time. I swear for a minute I felt like I was in New York City. Well….maybe they’re not that good, but still so much fun and a whole lot closer! This year, in addition to the usual glitz and glamour, they have designed kid-sized space-themed tunnels that span about half a city block that children can climb through like a maze. Some serious Christmas fun — we could have stayed there all day! And just look at this patient, kind and oh so authentic Santa — fabulous!

Spoiler Alert!

The sweet family I was scheduled to shoot this past weekend had to cancel because their little one was sick (we hope you’re all better now, Miss. L!), which turned out to be a huge blessing, because I was able to fit in our family Christmas card shoot! Sorry to spoil it for those of you who get a card from us, but I couldn’t resist sharing just a little. We ventured to one of my favorite spots in Dallas to watch the sun set and came away with this…

I won’t share any others that found their way on our Christmas card, but here are some of the “rejects” that can hardly be called that…

And my favorite of the night — I was having a hard time getting my daughter to give me any eye contact at all, so I handed my camera to my husband and I tried to get some smiles out of her without the camera plastered to my face. I love knowing that she was smiling so big at me. I love you, sweet baby girl!
