They’re getting married in less than 3 months, and they’re kinda excited about it…..can you tell?!? We’re excited too, E&H, and can’t wait to see all that life has in store for you two! Your love sure does look good on you.

He is my firstborn. The child that made me a mother. The newborn that we fumbled over and the one that we have probably made more “mistakes” on than I care to admit. But we must be doing *something* right, because we couldn’t be prouder of his character and who he is becoming. We feel so fortunate to be his parents and firmly believe that God has given him a special set of characteristics that will one day be used mightily. He is my leader. My outgoing one, my encourager. My tenderhearted, passionate one who literally OVERFLOWS with joy. His sweet teacher this year calls him her “joy pill,” because his joy knows no bounds.
I never thought in a million years that the girly girl that I am would be a boy mom, and much less enjoy it, but my sweet Max has certainly changed my mind there, which is a good thing because we will be welcoming ANOTHER BOY to our family in July. We are a little shocked, as we all were convinced (and I mean go ahead and paint the nursery pink convinced) that we were having another girl, but super excited for all the new boy adventures that will be coming our way. We love you, Maxwell and are so proud of you. If this next little boy turns out half as sweet as you, we’ll be in pretty good shape! 😉
So last year, this sweet family and I planned to have our session in the Arts District downtown, and it was just not meant to be. You might remember how we had to make a last minute detour due to some unscheduled events in our planned meeting spot. So this year, we were determined to make our original plan work, and after a reschedule (for yet another unplanned event!), we finally were able to make it happen. Our time together is always wonderful, but I’m so glad that we finally got our Arts District session. Some things are just simply worth the wait.
Miss. L is almost *exactly* one year older than my little girl, and it is such a delight to be with her and see what my sweet pea will be doing this time next year. And as you can see, Miss. L is not only a beautiful child (a given with such attractive parents!), but she has the most vibrant, fun personality. I’m so glad we let her loose to splash and roll in the water at the end of our session. I just love her jest for life!
Remembering the Past While Looking Forward to the Future
You might remember that 2011 was not the easiest year for our little family. Yes, about this time last year, I was quite excited to say goodbye to 2011 and start a brand new year. A new year filled with new opportunities, new beginnings and new blessings. And while 2012 was much gentler and kinder to our family, as I stop to reflect back on what it was, I find that I’m most thankful not for the great blessings and “high moments” but for the hardships of the year before. For, you see, it was through those difficulties, perhaps because of them, that my perspective improved, was placed back where it belongs. I have always been a planner and a dreamer, but I have not always been the best at slowing down and cherishing my today, at counting my everyday blessings one at a time. So in 2012, I resolved to live more fully where God has placed me, to be mindful of and thankful for the divine blessings sprinkled throughout each everyday. And while I certainly didn’t do it perfectly, I am so thankful for my “new” perspective and can’t wait to discover what 2013 has in store for us! A belated Happy New Year to everyone — may 2013 be rich in everyday blessings for you!
As she was gleefully running through (and rolling in!) the water, she turned to me and with the most enthusiastic little voice and said, “this is the drippiest photo session I have EVER been to!” Best quote of the night, hands down!
And you have no idea just how *drippy* she got.
She is an unusual beauty both inside and out. And how much fun we had together while documenting her life as she closes one chapter and opens the next. Best of luck to you, T, as you begin your new adventure — may all your dreams come true!
Grandmothers are special. They just are. Their kisses, hugs and certainly their treats are extra special. And everyone knows there is a soft spot in every grandmother’s heart for her grandchildren. Nothing delights either of mine more than some time to be spoiled by either of their grandmas. So when the C Family wanted to include their boys’ Nai Nai in their session, well, I just knew it would be special. She clearly adores those boys, and what a wonderful thing to document for them. I know they will look back at these photos in years to come and be reminded of just how much she loves them, and that certainly is a special thing.
I leave most sessions feeling very nostalgic about how fast my kiddos are growing up. I’m sure that’s no surprise, as that seems to be a constant theme here on this little blog of mine. But not this session! I loved watching the interaction between this beautiful mamma and her three not-so-little ones. The laughter, the fun, and all the things they enjoy doing together. In fact, they were packing up from our time together to go hit a 5K run that night as a family (how fun is that!?). No, I didn’t leave feeling nostalgic, but excited about all that lays ahead. Excited for the years to come where our children will blossom into their own, develop interests that are special to them and hopefully become our friends too. J, you are a wonderful mom, and have three fantastic kids. Your love and connections shine through so beautifully — thank you for trusting me to capture them for you!
Have you ever met a child that just sparkles? You know the kind, the ones that you just make your heart smile and draw you in with their adorable, bigger-than-life personalities? There has always been something special about Baby R, and I’ve felt so honored to watch her grow up in front of my lens. As a baby, she was so sweet and cuddly with the brightest blue eyes. And if I had to describe her in one word as a toddler, it would be *sparkly.* I was so captivated by that twinkle in her eye and extra bounce in her step. We had so much fun at our session together, and she had us all in stitches the entire time. I literally could not stop giggling over all her dancing. Whether we were downtown or at home, with music or not, she danced. What a joy she is — R’s I know you know this, but you have an extra special one!
