sweet baby snuggles

Hands down, *this* is what I miss the most about having a baby. Those sweet, tender moments between parent and child of complete dependence, total adoration that are so abundant those first few months of life. Those moments when your baby snuggles up and everything else melts away. You forget about everything you *should* be doing, because all is as it should be, and nothing. else. matters. Miss. R was certainly in a snuggly mood while I was with her at her session late this past Spring, and what sweet moments we captured to preserve these precious days for this family.

Our session was right before Father’s Day, and what a beautiful gift this baby’s daddy (and granddaddy) got on their special day. I just love it when my clients choose to preserve their family memories and stages in this way. I know they cherish it now, but I also know its sentimental value will only increase as their snuggly little baby grows into a busy toddler, playful child and beautiful young lady…all entirely too fast!

And luckily, Miss. R didn’t doze the *entire* time I was there. She did perk up, play and show us those beautiful blue eyes. I’ll be seeing sweet Miss. R in about a month at one of my October Mini Sessions, and I can’t wait to see all she is up to these days!

third time’s the charm?

I am convinced that whomever came up with the saying “the third time’s the charm” must have been referring to families with third children. I’ve photographed several families with third children lately, and without fail, each one of those “thirds” was the happiest, best-natured baby. Sweet Miss. L was certainly no exception, and her family was so excited to welcome her — remember the story of my arrival that day?

She was such a little doll. Makes me wonder if a “third” should be in our future too… 😉

Our joy

Our vacation this year did not go as planned. It started with the devastating loss of a beloved father and grandfather who left us for eternity way too soon. And if that wasn’t enough, I was in and out of doctors offices and ERs in three different states with a crazy staph infection in my arm that just wouldn’t go away. It wasn’t what we planned. But the important thing was that we were together, away from the distractions of daily life. We were grieving and healing (in more ways than one), and in the midst of all the craziness, there were moments like this. Moments of sunshine in our time of rain. I am so thankful for these two little loves and the joy they bring to our lives each and every day.

tough shoes to fill

There may be some tough shoes for this newest little B to fill, but his big brothers can *hardly* wait to show him the ropes. He is just 10 days old, and what sweet, tender love they have for him already!

a mother’s love

A mother’s love is special. I’ve always known this…everyone does. But it wasn’t until I became a mother myself and held my first child in my arms for the first time that I truly understood what that meant. I began to love in a way that I never had before. I loved that tiny little person so completely, so differently. And I think becoming a mother helped me to love others in my life better too. I loved my husband in a deeper way now that we were officially a family, and I gained an appreciation for all that my own parents had done for me and why.

A mother’s love is special. I love it that we documented that for this beautiful mamma and her two little ones, and it makes me realize how badly I need a photo session of my own!

Mirror, mirror on the wall . . .

Who’s the fairest newborn of all?

Well…I’m not sure I could ever make that determination, but I know that Miss. P would certainly be in the running! Just look at those perfect little features.

chalking.

It’s the little things that are making our summer special. He’s just going off to Kindergarten, not college, not a boarding school. But I’m trying to savor every moment with both of them this summer, because for our family, this summer marks the end of one stage and the beginning of the next. I’m excited about all that lays ahead of us, but I know that as we enter “big boy school” and all the activities and to and fro that will naturally accompany that, we will inevitably have less time for just hanging out…for doing things like drawing pictures on the sidewalk and hugging in the sunshine….just ‘cuz we felt like it.

Irish triplets?

I’m not even sure if there is such a term, but if there is, this sweet family would certainly be close to qualifying! They welcomed their set of boy/girl twins just slightly over a year after their second child was born. Yes, you did the math right, three babies under the age of 13 months…whew! But they didn’t focus on all the diapers, bottles, routines. They were so excited to be a family of six, and I was touched by their incredible story and strong faith. Their joy was real, and they were authentically thankful.

Being with this family on this day was such a great reminder to me. A reminder to not let the mundane details of daily life get in the way of being truly grateful for my blessings. Thank you, D family, for not only inviting me into your home but for sharing your story and hearts with me!
